He probably came to August a Co. , Virginia in the fall of 1756. He and his brothers, John and Jo shua were in the Indian Wars after their arrival in Augusta County.

The Cox family information came from "As a Tree Grows," compile d by V erl F. Weight, 5343 Halsted Avenue, Carmichael, California an d assist ed by Mrs. Charles W. Cox, Piney Creek, North Carolina, in Se pt. 1962 . The 1st edition was limited to 200 copies. This book also i ncluded "History of a Branch of Our Cox Family, compiled by Rev. Sime on O. Co xe (1877-1955). The Library of Virginia, in Richmond, and th e Nationa l Genealogical Society Library, Arlington, Virginia both hav e copies.

The Cox family were of the Methodist faith and were close friend s of Bishop Francis Asbury as proven by the Asbury Journals. Margare t and David were also Methodist.

By about 1765 David Cox and brother John were on New River in th en Au gusta County, which became Botetourt County in 1769, Fincastle C ount y in 1772, Montgomery County in 1776, Wythe County in 1789 and fi nall y Grayson County in 1792. George and Malcom McCown, brother-in-la ws o f David Cox, were in the New River area for some time with the Co x br others and their sister Margaret. The area was on the border of w hat later became the line between North Carolina and Virginia.

Col. Robert B. Cox, 104 F Windsor Castle Drive, Newport News, Vi rgini a 23602 (March 1994) is a descendant of this line. He has done g eneal ogical research. Ginger Ballard, 4657 Blanco Drive, San Jose, Ca lifor nia 95129 is also a descendant (July 1995). Norman Bea Cox, 630 6 Sylv an Drive, Columbia, South Carolina 29206-1554, is a descendan t also.
